Nonprofit & Association Data Project Coordinator

Columbia Books & Information Services, a database and compliance publisher in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a database project manager to oversee several ongoing database development and management projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in database systems and management, as well as Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Excel. The position requires exemplary attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion while working alongside product development, marketing and sales team members to deliver user-friendly database products with end users in mind.

The project manager is responsible for directing teams of off-shore developers to produce products and manage websites which leverage our large database of political, corporate, and association related records. The project manager will be expected to become intimately familiar with our database structure and gain a strong understanding of our data gathering and cleansing processes.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Data Services. The job offers competitive benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage, 3 weeks' paid vacation plus 9 holidays. Employees who commute on Metro receive a $100 per month subsidy (our offices are a three-block walk from the Bethesda Metro, and shuttle service is available). Desired Skills and Experience

  • Background in nonprofit/association industry is a plus, as is knowledge of government databases, and the US political system and climate.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Microsoft SQL server is preferred but not required

Business Development & Subscription Sales Executive: Government Relations Division

Columbia Books & Information Services (CBIS), a growing provider of government relations and advocacy tools, compliance information, training and in-depth data, has a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and entrepreneurially-inclined sales professional who can contribute to our Government Relations Division by identifying and winning new accounts and selling/ renewing our print, digital subscription resources and advocacy tools.

This division is in growth mode and we are seeking a Business Development & Subscription Sales Executive to join our organization and keep the momentum going. This role requires a consultative sales professional with a passion for new business development and a proven track record of success in selling in the government, government relations/advocacy industries. You'll work in an extremely dynamic, team-based and truly fast-paced environment and will be responsible for aggressively cultivating new business opportunities while expanding our footprint within our existing client base. You will work directly with our marketing teams to identify prospects, educate current and prospective buyers on the new products and services we offer, and renew current customers. Successful candidates will love engaging with people on the phone, thrive on beating their goals, and be creative in brainstorming new sources of leads with marketing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and nurture sales opportunities and maintain customer relationships within new and existing clients via phone and face-to-face presentations (70% inside/30% outside)
  • Actively manage a significant client portfolio and develop tactical and strategic relationships to better serve their needs
  • Evaluate client needs and present appropriate subscription products as solutions
  • Conduct product demos for prospective clients requesting product trials
  • Handle the entire sales process from the initial call to the close
  • Clearly communicate to clients our terms of offer and pricing; generate proposals as needed
  • Meet or exceed your monthly sales goals while hitting your daily activity metrics
  • Serve as account manager after the sale to handle customer inquiries and spot upsell opportunities
  • Participate in ongoing sales and product training to continue to sharpen your professional knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Document customer contacts and interaction in Salesforce

Subscription Sales Representative

Columbia Books & Information Services, a growing provider of compliance information, training and in-depth data, has a fantastic opportunity for a results-driven, entrepreneurial Inside Sales/Renewal Sales professional. This position is for you if you are a proven closer, thrive on working the phones, and love engaging with people. You'll be contacting current customers to renew their subscriptions to our market-leading print and digital subscription compliance resources. When it comes to prospecting, our products have high name recognition as sources of authoritative, mission-critical information.

You'll also have the support of a team of marketing and product development people who will help you understand the needs of the customer and how our products satisfy those needs. You'll also be part of the team that develops new products and services so you'll always have more to sell to our current clients.

* Meet or exceed your monthly sales goals while hitting your daily activity metrics

* Serve as account manager after the sale to handle customer inquiries and spot upsell opportunities

This is a full-time position, although if part-time works better for you, we'll consider that, too. You'll report primarily to the Head of Controlled Substances, Energy, FDA and Grants Divisions. The job pays a competitive base salary plus commissions. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, 3 weeks paid vacation plus 9 holidays, the opportunity to invest in a 401(k) and a Metro subsidy. Our offices are three blocks from the Bethesda Metro, and staffers who commute on Metro get a $100/month subsidy. During the summer, Bethesda staff can work a schedule that gives them every other Friday off.
