Mark Hornby, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, named 2017 Nonprofit CFO Rising Star of the Year

Bethesda, MD. – Mark Hornby, Director of Operations, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America has been named the 2017 Rising Star of the Year. He will be honored at the 2017 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon, October 24 at The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC.

Mark joined the FCCLA national staff as Director of Finance on March 7,2014 after being the Sr. Accounting Manager at the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc, (ABC). Prior to working with ABC, Mark was a Manager at Johnson Lambert LLP, (JL) a public accounting firm, that specializes in auditing non-profit organizations. At JL, Mark oversaw approximately 25 different non-profit engagements for organizations with revenue ranging from $3-$60 million. Additionally, at JL Mark oversaw the office’s Information Technology Assurance (ITA) practice. Mark joined JL back in 2006, after he received a Masters in Accounting (2006) and Bachelors in Accounting (2005) from James Madison University. In August 2016, Mark’s title changed to Director of Operations to better reflect the role he plays in overseeing the finance, IT, HR and building aspects of the organization. During the past three years, Mark helped FCCLA increase their net assets from $836k to $3,571k, increase their operating reserves from $432k to $3,318k and reduce their debt from $778k to $0.

“Mark came to FCCLA at a crucial time for the organization and helped us establish processes that moved the organization to become financially secure and better able to focus on meeting the goals of our mission. He has been an invaluable asset to FCCLA." Said FCCLA president, Sandy Spavone.

In his spare time, Mark serves as the Treasurer for Food For Others, a food pantry serving the Northern Virginia community. Mark also enjoys playing golf, working out and spending time with his wife, Brittany, and dog, Tucker.

The 2017 Rising Star of the Year will be honored at the Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon, October 24 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC. Also to be honored at the event are the 2017 Association CFO of the Year, the 2017 Philanthropic CFO of the Year, and the 2017 Nonprofit CFO of the Year.
