Bethesda, Md. - Samantha Barbee, CFO and VP for Finance, Administration and IT at the International Youth Foundation, has been named the 2013 Nonprofit CFO Transformational Leader: National Organization She will be honored at the 2013 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon, January 31 at The Capital Hilton in Washington DC.

Ms. Barbee began her involvement with IYF as a volunteer and immediately began to help the organization become better organized. After some years in a volunteer role she took on the role of CFO for the organization. In that capacity she developed the Finance Department so that it combined accounting, compliance, CFO functions, IT and administration. Based on her work and the work of those in the organization who she mentored, IYF went from being an organization with only 20 employees to one that has 70 in the headquarters and another 70 abroad. A major success story,” said Chief Judge of the CFO of the Year Awards and CPA President of LangCPA Consulting LLC, Andrew S. Lang.

Samantha Barbee is the CFO and VP of Finance, Administration and IT at the International Youth Foundation (IYF) (mentioned already). Samantha grew up in Costa Rica and received her bachelor’s degree in Government at Georgetown University. Before moving to California to pursue an MBA from Haas, Samantha worked for a consulting firm that managed the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program of the United States Department of Justice. There she served as a Field Representative throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean, and as the Country Program Director in Bogota, Colombia.

Samantha serves on several nonprofit boards: She is the Chair of the MBA Nonprofit Connection, which seeks to engage MBAs in the nonprofit sector; the Treasurer of Amigos de las Americas, which provides leadership and community services opportunities to young people; and the Vice-Chair of InsideNGO, which works to support the operational and management capacity of the international development organizations.

About the Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards: Each year the CFO Awards recognize the often unsung leadership role CFOs have in the important works nonprofits do, working generally behind the scene as a key supporter of the executive director, to keep the organization moving forward. The program is hosted in joint partnership with Association TRENDS, Tate & Tryon and West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors.
